Two South African women of Indian origin receive international honors, one being Forbes Woman Africa 'Young Achievers' and the other in the Times-100 list

Two young women of Indian origin from the city of Pretoria, South Africa, have won international honors this week for their exemplary leadership work. These include a 21-year-old beauty product entrepreneur and a 30-year-old architect. Beauty product entrepreneur Rabia Ghur received the Forbes Woman Africa 'Young Achievers' Award for 2021, while architect Sumaiya Valley was included in the 2021 Times-100 list. This honor is given to those who, through their leadership ability, reshape the future.

The award to Ghur was announced during the Virtual Forbes Summit. Ghur started 'Switch Beauty', her makeup and skincare online beauty store, at the age of 14. Dropping out of school after two years, she was inspired to focus full time on business. Ghur said “I started researching to create a beauty brand with my ultimate goal of product origin, formulation, e-commerce, packaging, manufacturing, design, which doesn’t break boundaries and so on - things like that Were used by people who actually use them.

Wally became the youngest architect to feature in the Times-100 list for his role in the design of the pavilion for London's Serpentine galleries.
Wally founded the company Counterspace five years ago in partnership with some friends, when she was also a lecturer at the Graduate School of Architecture at the University of Johannesburg. He said that the company was formed with the aim of developing a language of design.
